Recent Research

Recent Worked Examples include:

• House Committee-Chair Term Limits, examining how the end of long-standing committee-chair baronies redistributed authority and contributed to greater concentration of institutional power in congressional leadership;

• Texas University Faculty Governance, paired with the Committee-Chair example to examine how shorter renewal intervals for one authority class can alter accumulated governing capacity and redistribute authority toward more continuous institutional centers; and

• The Evolution of Constitutional Maintenance, examining how constitutional maintenance pathways developed, declined, migrated, and redistributed functions across American constitutional systems.

A recent Case Library entry examines Oklahoma’s fifty-six-year lapse in submitting its constitutionally required periodic convention question, providing a contemporary observation of maintenance availability, pathway dormancy, and institutional reactivation.

Rotation, Continuity, and Eligibility

Rotation Research further developed its treatment of rotation in office through examination of bounded service, required absence, restored eligibility, succession, and non-restorable eligibility exhaustion.

Historical research, including James Harrington’s treatment of equal rotation and equal vacations, continues to inform comparisons between earlier rotation systems and modern eligibility architectures.

Continuity and Renewal

The Continuity and Renewal framework was substantially expanded to distinguish Representative Renewal, Authority Renewal, and Institutional-Capacity Renewal, and to examine how deliberately maintained continuity architectures preserve governing capacity across succession. The revision also develops temporal asymmetry, recursive accumulation, and Institutional Immune and Autoimmune Responses.

Constitutional Maintenance

Research on constitutional maintenance expanded its examination of how constitutional systems preserve pathways for review, correction, amendment, and institutional adaptation through time.

Recent work has focused particularly on maintenance availability, pathway activity and dormancy, proposal authority, constitutional conventions, and institutional responses to constitutional change.

Case Library and Worked Examples

The Case Library continues to document contemporary and historical governance developments involving eligibility architecture, voter authorization, proposal authority, constitutional maintenance, institutional response, and rotation in office.

These observations provide a continuing comparative record for application and refinement of the Rotation Research Framework.

Republican Rotation and Constitutional Continuity

Rotation Research expanded its historical treatment of rotation through further examination of James Harrington’s The Commonwealth of Oceana (1656), including Harrington’s analysis of equal rotation, defined terms, recurring ineligibility, and distributed governing functions. Related historical materials were updated to incorporate these relationships.

Framework Integration

The project further integrated its treatment of Authority Formation, Authority and Its Distribution, Continuity and Renewal, and Governance Legitimacy within the broader study of how governing authority develops, operates, persists, redistributes, and adapts through time.

Framework Application and AI Integration

The updated Framework‍ ‍can be applied by AI systems to governance structures and institutional arrangements using the project’s common analytical sequence. A complete Framework evaluation may be initiated through a direct query identifying the subject.

Testing by Rotation Research has found that ChatGPT and Grok‍ ‍can independently identify and apply the Framework from a direct query. Other AI systems remain under evaluation as discovery, retrieval, and Framework application continue development.
